When are your classes held?

How much are classes?

All class prices and times are listed on the classes page of the website. Valid student ID must be shown to qualify for the student discount. Payments can be made by card or cash at class.

Are there any restrictions on joining classes?

Our classes are open to everyone, male, female, old and young. However, all new students will be required to fill in and sign a disclaimer which will require you to declare any existing medical conditions. An existing medical condition will not necessarily prevent you from participating in our classes. However, as with any form of exercise you can put in as much or as little as you are able to. Our classes will require you to exert yourself physically and you are responsible for ensuring that you do not over-exert yourself and that you only exercise within your abilities. We do not allow anyone under the age of 16 years old to take part in any of our Pole Classes, 16-17 year olds must be accompanied by a parent to their first class.

How many poles are there and how big are your classes?

We have up to 15 poles available in class for events and masterclasses, we never have more than 3 people to a pole (usually 2 people per pole) we have 8 poles up permanently. There are 8 permanent Aerial Yoga Hammocks up at all times and a maximum class size of 8. We also have 4 Aerial Hoops, and no more than 3 people per hoop.

How many students do you have to a each apparatus?

There are a maximum of 3 students per pole, however we usually have no more than 2 people per pole, and never more than 3 per aerial hoop. Aerial Yoga Hammocks are one per person.

How many instructors are there per class?

This depends on the size of the class! There more students there are, the more instructors we provide. We have 8 instructors in all and always ensure there are enough instructors to easily provide safe teaching, giving each student plenty instruction, while also giving students time to practice during class.

I’ve never danced before! Will I be able to do pole dancing?

Of course! You don’t need any dancing or fitness experience at all. At your first class we will help you determine your level of experience and fitness, and work at whatever pace you are comfortable with.

What should I wear?

Ideally for pole you will need to wear shorts and a t-shirt or vest. It’s not necessary to wear shorts for your first lesson or two but you’ll need bare skin as you progress to be able to stick to the pole. We recommend that even if you are not sure about wearing shorts you should put some in your bag and bring them to class anyway – we find people quickly get over their fear of shorts when they get annoyed by not being able to do certain tricks! For Aerial Yoga classes please ensure you have the tops of your arms and backs of your knees are covered – this is a lot more comfortable for you! For Aerial Hoop classes, ideally fitted leggings or cotton trousers, and pair of leg warmers. These are available to buy at the studio.

Can I wear heels?

We ask you to not wear heels during our Pole Fitness classes as we use crash mats for your safety and you would not be able to stand up with heels on. You can wear any form of dance footwear to classes, although you may find pole dancing easier in bare feet. We do have some classes that are high heel compatible, watch facebook or our events page for details! You are required to remove all outdoor footwear prior to entering the dance area of our studio. Shoe racks are available for outdoor shoes in the reception area.

Do you do beginners courses?

At Northern Pole Dance we don’t run set courses for classes. All our classes are mixed ability and cater for everyone, from the absolute beginners to the very advanced. Classes are tailored to your ability and our instructors will work at your pace to ensure you make the best progress you can. We do have separate beginner classes as we know some beginners don’t like to attend a class with advanced students flying around the ceiling! You are more than welcome to attend the mixed ability classes as a beginner.

Do I have to book in advance?

We always ask that you book your space in advance so we can ensure we have spaces, you are welcome to turn up to class without booking – however if we are already full we will have to ask you to come back to another class.

How do I book a class?

To get to our online booking site, please press the ‘Book Now’ button that you can find on our various website pages. You can also use the online booking system via our  FaceBook Page. You can use the timetable to see what classes we have available. Special events will be listed on Facebook or on our Events page.

I don’t want to sign up for a full month in case I find I don’t like pole dancing! Can I come along     to just one class?

Of course you can! You can come along to any of our classes by booking a one-off class, if you decide you want to book a monthly option there are a couple of possibilities, or if you want to stick to pay-as-you-go classes you are very welcome to do so. You can also book a 1 week pass to have a chance to try out all of the various classes. Monthly classes work out cheaper depending on how many classes you choose to attend. Please note – classes do not roll over so please ensure you have checked the terms and conditions of monthly options prior to purchasing.

Do I need to come with a partner or can I come on my own?

It’s entirely up to you! You are welcome to come along in groups or on your own. A partner is certainly not essential. All of our students and instructors are very friendly and will ensure that you are teamed with other students of similar ability during classes. If you would like to come along as a large group you must ensure that you all book in advance so that we can make sure there are enough spaces in class. Alternatively you can contact us by text, phone or e-mail to enquire about booking a private class or party for a large group.
